Welcome to Central Oklahoma Clean Cities

Clean Cities is a locally based, private industry and government partnership sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Its mission is to advance the economic, environmental, and energy security of the United States by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption in the transportation sector.

In Central Oklahoma, Clean Cities is supported by the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG), the Oklahoma Dept. of Commerce and the U.S. Dept. of Energy.

The objectives of the Clean Cities program are:

  • to facilitate the deployment of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs)
  • to support the installation of an alternative fuel refueling infrastructure throughout the nation
  • to increase the use of fuel blends (diesel/biodiesel, ethanol/gasoline, and compressed natural gas (CNG)/hydrogen)
  • to accelerate sales of hybrid electric vehicles
  • to promote informed consumer choice on fuel economy
  • to encourage the use of idle reduction technologies for heavy-duty trucks and other vehicles

In addition, Clean Cities supports the objectives of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 and the Energy Policy Act of 1992.

The Central Oklahoma Clean Cities program is a catalyst for new jobs and industry in the region. The relationship all partners and stakeholders maintain is one that advances not only DOE goals, but also Oklahoma economic development goals.

There are more than 80 Clean Cities coalitions in metropolitan areas across the country.
